What inspired you to write Halloween and the Black Sun?

I was inspired to write “Halloween and the Black Sun” by my time in Kosovo. I was struck by the many stories waiting to be told, tales that echoed resilience, hope, and the challenges of navigating the treacherous waters of diplomacy. The rich background of Kosovo provided a fertile ground for drama, tension, and suspense. I wanted to explore the contrast of Kit’s New Zealand sensibilities with the intricate dynamics of Kosovo and delve into the unsettling theme of extremist factions in Europe profiting from creating chaos.

Theme songs for the main characters

For Kit Chase, the main character of “Halloween and the Black Sun,” I would choose Destiny’s Child’s “Survivor.” It captures Kit’s determination and resilience. As for the two canine heroes, I would pick “Who Let the Dogs Out?” by Baha Men. It adds a fun and lighthearted element to their characters.

Books on the TBR pile

I have a diverse range of books on my to-be-read (TBR) pile. At the top of my list is “The Shadows of Stormclyffe Hall” by Lauren Smith. I’m also a fan of Jayne Ann Krentz and Gigi Pandian, so I have their books on my TBR pile as well. I love exploring different authors and discovering new voices in the genres I enjoy.

Favorite scene to write

In “Halloween and the Black Sun,” my favorite scene to write was when Kit and her team delve into the archaeological site of Ulpiana in Kosovo. I have a keen interest in archaeology, and it was fascinating to incorporate an authentic world locale into the story. The dogs played a pivotal role in this scene, pinpointing the exact scene of the crime in this intriguing setting. It was a thrilling and atmospheric scene to write.

Quirky writing habits

I have a few quirky writing habits that help me get into the writing zone. I like to have my crystals and essential oils around me for additional inspiration. If I’m working on a difficult scene, I’ll put on music with relaxing sound frequencies to help me focus and overcome any blocks.
